My Recent Gardening Project

Welcome! I decided to blog about my newly found decision to change the things I eat and make. I have decided to do organic gardening and supply my household with good, safe food. I plan on canning and drying everything I can also. I have already constructed my beds (yes ME, I did it myself  with the help of my sister!)

After that I had to fill the beds with soil. Oh was that a job! I can not even tell you how many wheelbarrows my husband and I took to fill those three beds! After about 4 days they were done! Here is the result...

Then after that I had to re-brick. I had orginally had a patio in this spot and I removed all the bricks to make the beds. I took all those bricks and bricked pathways between the beds. That took me a few days as I did not do it all at once but broke it up over a week. Now it is finally done! I also made a 4 foot by 4 foot bed for herbs. Now I am planning what I am going to grow. This is what the beds look like now!

The trash cans are my compost piles. One is cooking and the other is just de-composing for the bed soil. I drilled holes all around and up and down them, including the lids. They make a good compost bin. In the spring I am planning on building a compost bin and remove the trash cans.

Today I received my canner. I found one exactly like my old one on Ebay and bought it for $45! What a deal! It is exactly what I hoped for. It's heavy and is not aluminum so will not bend under stress. Here is what it looks like:
That's all for this post. See you in the next!
